Obituary

Minnie E. David
March 25, 1937-September 9, 2018

Minnie E. David unexpectedly went to be with our Lord on Sunday September 9, 2018 while at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Tx. Minnie possessed a love of life and love of people, young and old, family or stranger. With her beautiful smile and infectious personality, she made many friends everywhere she traveled. Minnie was born in San Antonio, Tx on March 25, 1937 to parents Louis and Herminia Coultress. She not only was beautiful but had a sultry alto voice and was a singer at Jefferson High School. She performed on local San Antonio television shows and was offered opportunities in the music industry.

Instead of pursuing those, she fell in love with and married an Air Force serviceman from Port Arthur, Tx, Bruce M David. Minnie and Bruce had 6 children, 2 born in England, 2 in Fort Worth Tx, 1 in San Antonio, Tx. and 1 in Germany. Their travels took them all over Europe and once they were settled in the states, their favorite activity with 6 kids was state park camping. Later on, they spent summers at their beach house near Galveston. Bruce retired from the AF in 1969 while in Oklahoma and they moved to San Antonio where he lived out the rest of his life until death in 1975. Minnie worked for many years in Civil Service at Ft. Sam Houston Headquarters, loved dancing, traveling and gambling, especially slot machines and Texas Holdem.

In addition to her husband Bruce, she was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Herminia Coultress, sisters Stella Villarreal and Mary Marmolejo Garza, brothers Louis, Alfred, James, Robert, Rudy and Joe Coultress, and grandson David Aaron Shaw.

Survivors include friend and significant other for the past 22 years, Ronald Flowe, daughter Rose Evelyn Shaw and husband Tom, son Bruce "Buddy" M David Jr., daughter Valerie K David, son Henry "Tex" Edward David lll, daughter Jennifer Lynn Mendiola (Larry Martin), daughter Laura Christine Dean (John Bryant) and special niece Linda Lacayo. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Patrick Shaw, wife Jennifer and children Samantha and Tyler; Adam Shaw, wife Elizabeth and daughter Olivia; Maxine Mendiola (Chase Crutchfield) and children Hayden and Harper; Areli David; Edward David; Alex Mendiola, wife Sunshine and daughters Mackenzie and Ava; Matthew Dean, wife Kendall and children Abigail and Mason; Ashley Dean Wicht, husband Ayden and daughter Kaylee, Danielle David and daughter Alaina, and youngest grandson Ian Rankin.

Bailey the dog will miss sitting on Nana's feet and keeping them warm (because she wouldn't let him sit in her lap)!

Viewing will be Wednesday Sept. 19 from 6-8 pm at Porter Loring Mortuaries.
