Obituary

Myrle Dietz Latimer, 92 of Victoria passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 following a long illness. She was born March 18, 1925 in Newport, Kentucky.

Myrle was the only daughter of Earl and Pearl Dietz. She attended Newport public schools and was a cheerleader at Newport High School. After graduation, she attended secretarial school and then worked for WLW radio station in Cincinnati. She met her husband, recent WWII veteran Robert M. Latimer, through friends and they were married on August 9, 1950. Myrle and Bob Latimer then moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia where Bob worked for E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. as a chemical engineer. The family was transferred to Victoria, Texas in 1963. Over the next 40 years, they raised their four children who were schooled at Nazareth Academy and St. Joseph. Myrle was proud that all of her children pursued professional careers having graduated from college and graduate schools. Myrle and Bob also cared for Bob's mother, Lucy Latimer, who was physically disabled.

After Bob retired from Du Pont, Myrle and Bob travelled across the country touring as far as Alaska. Myrle was best known as an avid swimmer who taught young swimmers through the Red Cross. In her 60's she swam 100 miles over several months. Always gregarious, Myrle has a long list of friends and acquaintances. She was a member of the DuPont Bridge Club. Myrle also baked Christmas treats for the sisters at Nazareth Academy, the brothers at St. Joseph, and the Victoria Police Department among others. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.

Myrle is survived by four children, Kimberly Flores, husband Henry, son, Matt Sitterle, wife, Lori; great grandchildren, Jake and Paige; Dr. Jeff Latimer, wife, Dr. Tricia Tabor, daughter, Jennifer, son, Robert and wife Amanda; daughter, Leslie Sapadin and husband, David Sapadin; son, Stephen, wife Renee, and daughters, Emily and Hannah. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
