Obituary

Nancy "MeMa" Smith
January 16, 1938 - December 30, 2017

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the family of Nancy R. Smith "Mema," announces her passing. On January 16, 1938, Wentworth, North Carolina welcomed Nancy and raised her well until she lived with loving family members in San Antonio for the rest of her days. Nancy knew what hard work was from an early age working on the family farm; calling herself a "County girl" at heart. Fate was in play when Nancy met her soon to be husband Lee at what became their restaurant, which they ran for years.

Nancy and Lee met great friends throughout those years and lived life happy with the people that made things count. Even working brought Nancy great pleasures; making memories during her employment with "Equity Meats" for twenty plus years and her part-time job working for "Rusty's grocery" before her retirement. A caring woman who gave to community would reserve time to enjoy life through playing on a local softball team and gardening in which she grew and cultivated happy memories and Sunflowers which were the most beautiful in Nancy's eyes. Nancy and her Husband Lee loved spending time together at the beach, fishing, and sightseeing. It was like a second home to them. Spending time with family and friends really made her heart smile. She befriended every person she met and impacted so many people's lives. During her time on earth, Nancy and her Husband "Lee," gave back to their community by mentoring and taking in youth that had fallen on hard times. They believed everyone was worthy of being loved and given a second chance. Nancy was funny, kind, giving, gentle, and loving-this list could go on indefinitely. Mema Nancy is going to be truly missed and forever loved. Mema's spirit lives on in the lives she touched, and the sweet memories she left behind. Nancy left the seeds and tools behind for us to all dig our own "garden" and decorate our souls with unconditional love.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, F. Dewey and Dellie Rakestraw; son, Daniel Mckay Pullium; and Husband, Edward Lee Smith.

She is survived by her Siblings: Louise Roberts & Bill Rakestraw and wife. Daughters: Nancie Lea Smith, Sheila Michelle Chilton and Husband Daniel Munn. Grandchildren: Kristin P. Craig, Zachary Pulliam, Julia Michelle Chilton, Tiffany Louise Chilton, Briar Lee Munn and Harmonie Paige Mamie Carmen, along with Four Great-Grandchildren. Close Special Family friends: Sheila Albright, Joseph and Teresa Widger.
