Obituary for Nancy Neill Law

October 23, 1934 - November 8, 2017
San Antonio, Texas | Age 83

Nancy Ann Neill Law passed away on November 8, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on October 23, 1934, in San Angelo, Texas, to George H. "Jack" and Elizabeth Neill.

Nancy grew up in Sonora, Texas, thriving on ranch life, working livestock, and riding horseback. After graduating from Hockaday School in Dallas, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts Plan II from the University of Texas in Austin. Nancy was married to Dr. Paul F. Law from 1958 to 1978. An avid traveler from her youth, she was happiest when traveling with friends or family, whether by steamship, train, or elephant. She reveled in touring the wilds of Africa and riding the trains of India, especially with her daughter. She spoke Spanish and taught herself African dialects. She participated in and helped fund infant mortality studies in Zimbabwe and Kenya, interviewing expectant mothers using Swahili. At other times, you would often find her enjoying a rousing game of Rummikub at her son's home in Virginia.

Unable to remain idle, she enjoyed embroidery and bookkeeping and was a Master Gardener. She raised three children on her farm in Leon Springs, where she lived for nearly 60 years. Nancy continued the tradition handed down by her parents of spending family and fishing time on the beautiful Devil's River in West Texas. Her children, her nieces, and their families are blessed by this tradition.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Paul Law; and her niece, Carolyn Cooper Earwood. Nancy is survived by her sister, Jane Neill Cooper; her daughter, Judith Neill Law; her son, Jack Neill Law (Commander, U.S. Navy, Retired) and his wife, Rebecca; her grandchildren, Paul Carter Law, Tanner David Law, and Cooper Thomas Law; her nieces Elizabeth Cooper Davis, Charlotte Franklin, Margie Ann Nunn, and Barb Nell Myers; and her grandnieces Madeline Davis Fetterly, Emily Earwood Whitworth, Meredith Earwood Allen, and Libbye Davis Moyer. Nancy and her family have been blessed by the love and friendship of Raymond and Adela Campa of Leon Springs.
