Norma Jean Golden, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in San Antonio. She was born in Clyde, TX to parents Joe Clyde and Mary Fleming (McNeil) Davis. Since her father was in the oil business, Norma grew up in many places in west Texas.
She met her husband, Ray, while attending North Texas State Teachers College (now, the University of North Texas) when he drove up from Texas A&M with friends to visit Denton. After their wedding in December 1948, Norma became an Army wife as Ray served in the Panama Canal Zone. Following military life, the couple settled in Pecos, TX where Norma became a devoted mother and homemaker.
She loved God, her family and her church family. Norma was a dedicated member of the Pecos Church of Christ, and personified her religion by giving and helping others. She was known for her generous hospitality. Norma excelled at cooking and once won 'Best of Show' at the Reeves County Fair for her buttermilk pie. Norma loved traveling and ice cream cones. She also loved art and saw beauty in landscapes, furniture, fashion, and people.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in 2007.
Norma is survived by her son, Gordon Ray Golden and his wife Vanessa; daughter, Linda Golden Tuller and husband, John; brother, Porter Davis and wife Donna; grandchildren, Christopher Golden, Jeffrey Golden, Matthew Golden and wife, Anna, Hudson Tuller and wife Rachel, and Elizabeth Tuller; she has one great grandson, Sebastian Golden.
A viewing will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Archer Funeral Home, 111 N. Cedar, Seymour, TX.
