Obituary

We mourn the loss of Dr. Norman Wulfsohn. After suffering a stroke, he passed away peacefully the following day on Thursday, July 16, two days before his 94th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Shirley Blecher Wulfsohn. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Bruce Blecher, sister-in-law, Elaine Wulfsohn; daughters Vicki Wulfsohn and Janine Wulfsohn (Lee Rubin); and grandchildren Jill, Emily and Benjamin. Norman was the youngest brother to Phillip Wulfsohn (z"l) and Julius Wulfsohn (z"l).

He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on July 18, 1926, to Joseph and Esther Wulfsohn. As an eminent anesthesiologist and pulmonologist for over 70 years, he compassionately served and helped thousands of people, and mentored scores of doctors and nurses. He pioneered the use of numerous anesthesia techniques and collaborated on the invention of the modern ventilator, and other medical advances. He was one of the ten founding doctors of the UTSA Health Science Center Medical School. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

We pray that a clear and loving recollection of Norman will remain with all family members and friends. He was greatly loved and will be missed.
