Obituary

Olga Gutierrez Roman passed peacefully from this life at home surrounded by her children on May 26, 2018. Mrs. Roman's giving spirit and generous heart blessed her family. Being loved by Mrs. Roman was the best life could offer. Her love was fierce and boundless.

She married Silvino Roman November 19, 1950. Their marriage of 56 years was blessed with six children: Jesus (Connie), Patricia (Mario Villasenor), Olga Imelda (Aubrey Roberts), Robert (Nancy), Javier, Elizabeth (Al Sandoval). Mrs. Roman was the grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Mario Antonio Villasenor (Sarah), Jorge Roman (Cortnee), Matthew Roman (Shannon), Marie Villasenor Rockett (David), Rebecca Roman, Laura Roman Anderson (Devin), Gracie Roberts, Alfred Sandoval, Abbie Roberts, Alexzandra Roman, and Claudia Roman. She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Eloise Villasenor, Gabriella Roman, Arianna Roman, Elena Roman, Wynn Roman, Jory Roman, Amon Roman, and Edward Anderson.

Mrs. Roman valued education. Leading by example, she attended college maintaining her status on the Dean's List while keeping up with her favorite job as mother and homemaker. Mrs. Roman earned an Associate's Degree. She encouraged her children and grandchildren in all their educational endeavors.

Mrs. Roman was a natural business person. At age fifteen she began her sales career at Milton's Jewelry Store in Laredo, Texas, purchasing crystal and silver for her hope chest. Later, she met her life's love, Silvino, while working with him at JC Penney in Laredo, Texas. When their family relocated to San Antonio in 1973, she again worked at JC Penney and at Caribe Jewelry Store. She excelled in jewelry sales.

A Godly woman, Olga served as a lay minister at St. Thomas More Parish. Devoted to reading her Bible daily and praying the Rosary, she was a spiritual leader for her family. She was Godmother to grandchildren, nephews, and nieces always supporting them in their faith walk.

Her grandchildren treasure the memory of Grandma cooking for them. The food was plentiful, delicious, and seasoned with her love. She could take frozen meat, uncooked beans and rice, and within an hour have a delicious meal on the table!

Olga Roman was preceded in death by her husband, Silvino, her parents Antonio Gutierrez and Librada Zambrano Zuazua, and her sister Grace Rodriguez. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her brother Tony Gutierrez of Laredo, Texas, her brother-in-law, David Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas, and many nephews and nieces.

Her family is grateful for the loving care she received from Flor, Zugheyry, Ana, and Rocio. The support of Encompass Hospice was appreciated.
