To know her was to love her

Olga Sofia Angueira, age 98, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on October 4, 1921 in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico to Pedro Garcia and Maria Angelina Zaragoza. Her childhood was spent in Sabana Grande. She attended the Immaculate Conception Academy in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico where she received a secretarial degree. During World War II, she was employed at Fort San Cristobal in San Juan and it was there where she met her husband Efrain of 64 years. A proud military spouse and government service employee she lived and worked in places like Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Federal Republic of Germany. She was an avid dancer and loved to cook typical Puerto Rican dishes no matter where she was living. Following retirement from civil service in 1981, they settled in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After 12 years and wanting to be closer to grandchildren, they re-located to San Antonio. Throughout her life, she was a consummate professional, patriot, and leader. Her mantra was "Do things right or don't do them at all"! She was also a devoted wife, wonderful grandmother and fantastic great grandmother. She remained mentally alert and physically active until 2 months prior to her passing ambulating throughout the house with a cane. To know her was to love her and respect her. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Pedro Garcia Zaragoza; husband, Efrain Angueira Chaves; and son-in law, Elmer Garrastazu. Olga is survived by daughters Vilma Speelman and Olga Sanchez; son, Carlos Efrain Angueira; daugther-in-law, Wanda D. Angueira; son-in-law Jeff Speelman; grandchildren Elmer Ivan Garrastazu, Ivan Garrastazu, Ramon Garrastazu, William Gough, Melissa Roush, Carlos R. Angueira, Francisco C.
