Obituary for Ouida Lynn Wisdom

January 15, 1941 - May 18, 2020
San Antonio, Texas | Age 79

Ouida Lynn Wisdom, age 79, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. Lynn was born January 15, 1941 in Tyler, Texas to Ouida Shinn and J. Sims Lamar. Lynn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Jack Wisdom (Serena), Patrick Wisdom (Kathryn), and Gary Wisdom (Julie); grandchildren, Chesleigh Wisdom, Jacquelyn Euton (Dylan), Zack Wisdom, and Rex Wisdom; and great-grandchildren,Scarlett Euton, Khal Euton, and Ramsay Euton.

She graduated John Tyler High School and attended Oklahoma University, studying dance and dreaming of performing on Broadway. Rather than pursue the bright lights of New York City, she focused her life on her true calling, the calling she took the most pride and joy in, the calling of Motherhood. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray C. Wisdom Jr. God blessed them with three sons, Jack, Pat and Gary. After several stops around Texas, they decided on raising their family in Pleasanton, Tx. Motherhood came natural, and she excelled. Raising three boys, she was always outnumbered. She became an expert in mending skinned knees, umpiring backyard baseball games, swatting butts when needed, providing words of encouragement but most of all comforting little souls while instilling family values of respect and kindness. Family gatherings brought her the most joy and happiness.

For years, she shared her love of dance by owning and operating a successful dance studio. She worked long hours with so many young girls in search of the perfect pirouette or clicking their heels at just the right time. Her rewards came not from profits generated, but rather the sparkle in the eye of a young student or the outpouring of love from a proud parent.

The years in Pleasanton saw her circle of friends grow wide and without number. She gave back to her community by volunteering in a variety of endeavors. Many hours were spent in Little League concession stands, coaching swim teams, providing taxi service to youth sporting events or just sharing a smile to brighten the day of a friend. She loved to cook, entertain friends and was always ready for an adventure. When an unexpected snow storm blanketed South Texas, she was first in the Jeep to explore and take in the beauty of the winter wonderland. She cherished her time with "The Bridge Club". Dear friends would gather for laughter and merriment. Stories of life's ups and downs would be shared among the girls and maybe a few hands of bridge would transpire.
She nurtured a love for gardening, plants of all shapes, sizes and colors decorated her backyard. Many afternoons were spent caring for each one of them. Her sons would often tease her about harboring a gorilla in the jungle of plants in her backyard.

Her love for adventure and travel took on new meaning after her boys were grown and gone. The world was her stage. Her bags were packed and ready at the mention of a trip. She loved to ski the mountains of Colorado and once tried to outrun a highway patrolman while in route to her favorite ski resort. Her wit and charm avoided a speeding ticket as well. The vast beauty of New Mexico was her favorite. She loved exploring the shops of Taos and Santa Fe. A cup of coffee coupled with a desert sunrise were moments to be cherished. She loved to hike the surrounding trails and take in the aspects of all God's creations. Her last trip (Fall of 2019) at the age of 78 found her in Morocco. She explored ruins, rode a camel and hiked countless miles experiencing this fascinating country. She traveled with a group of Australians, half her age, that marveled at her stamina. Her grace and beauty were truly felt worldwide.
