Obituary

Pablo Gonzalez passed away peacefully at his home in San Antonio, Texas, on July 19, 2017, where he entered the gates of heaven after living a full and rewarding life. He was 90 years old and born in Crystal City, Texas to Pablo Gonzalez and Lucia Garza. Pablo is survived by his wife, Elvira Gonzalez; and their 5 children; sons Pablo Jr. and wife Isabelle, Hector, Juan, David and wife Marylove; and daughter Lisa. Pablo celebrated 7 grandchildren, Dominique, Travis, Vanessa, David Jr., Marley, Jacob and Alec. Pablo is also survived by his brother, Ricardo, and sisters, Veronica, Irma, Theresa and numerous nephews and nieces.

Pablo found his calling by proudly serving 23 years as a C-130 Flight Engineer and aircraft mechanic taking him all over the world and honorably retiring from the United States Marine Corps as a MSGT. He received medals and commendations for his service, including the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, and Philippine Invasion Ribbon.

He met the love of his life Elvira, at a dance in Laredo, Texas and it was love at first sight for him. There, he told her that he would be the guy she would marry. They were married on February 19th, 1955, and their love affair lasted for 62 loving years. He was 28 and she was 20. After his retirement, Pablo and Elvira loved to travel, visiting Japan, Hong Kong, Italy, Hawaii, and a cruise in Alaska.

Being a World War II Veteran, he was honored as a member of the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII Memorials. He was extremely humbled to be around so many heroes.

He was an active 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. In his retirement, he enjoyed wood work and made Christmas decorations and home goods with his wife, that he cut out, she painted and sold. He enjoyed BBQ and watching action movies.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and for all his hard work, he has left a legacy for his family. MSGT Pablo Gonzalez had a life that was well lived, well-loved and well celebrated. Semper Fi MARINE!
