Obituary

Pauline V. Bienek (Polly), age 91, passed away on September 23, 2018 in Garden Ridge, TX. Pauline was born to Dominic and Victoria Ebrom Dylla in St. Hedwig, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Bernard L. Bienek; children, Sister Geraldine, Gary and Ronald Bienek; sister & brother-in-law, Lucille and Tony Bienek; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Dylla. Pauline is survived by her children, Donna Grohman, Larry Bienek (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Pamela Bienek Harling; brother, Clem Dylla; 8 grandchildren, Gary Bienek, Jr. (Molly), Emma Mitchell (Nathan), Rick Grohman (Meghan), Jason Grohman (Amanda), Matthew Bienek, Logan Crake (Davison), Shawn Bienek, Connor Bienek; 11 great grandchildren, Hunter, Lauren, Nicholas, Kayla, Thomas, Delaina, David, Katie, Sarah, Ethan, Abbie; and 5 great-great grandchildren, Ava, Elijah, Isaiah, Serennity, Samira.

Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She started working outside the home with HEB in 1970 and continued her career with HEB for 38 years where she was loved by her customers and partners. These relationships were a huge part of her life and she found much joy in going to work.

Pauline's life was fulfilled taking care of her family, foregoing many personal wants to ensure her husband and children were taken care of. Much was sacrificed to send all 5 children to Catholic school, ensuring each had a solid moral and educational foundation. She was a long-time member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and a founding member of St. John Newman Catholic Church.

Pauline faced many hardships when her husband became ill at the young age of 51 and could no longer work. Overnight, she became head of the household, his primary caregiver, all while raising two children still at home and maintaining a full-time job.

Pauline also faced losing multiple children. She was heartbroken to have outlived Ronnie and Geraldine, and thankfully was unaware she lost a third child, Gary, earlier this year.

Holidays were always special in the Bienek household. She was a great cook and Thanksgiving dinner was a huge production preparing a feast for her family. Most Sundays the entire family came over for lunch, as well as Wednesday and Saturday evening dinners, spending time just talking around the table.
Pauline loved the Dallas Cowboys, especially her favorite quarterback, Roger Staubach, and many Sunday afternoons were spent sitting around the TV cheering for her favorite team. Country music was another love of hers, and she traveled to Branson, Missouri, multiple times to enjoy the shows, with Geraldine as her travel companion.

The family wants to thank all of mom's caregivers and volunteers. Several of them have shared memories that showed how much mom was cared for and loved. Although there were many wonderful caregivers, too many to name them all, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to The Village of Garden Ridge, Tisha, Hana, Bonnie, Belinda, Carolyn, and Marilyn. These relationships were priceless and cherished not only by mom, but by the entire family. You brought so much joy and laughter to mom. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

We celebrate the life of our mother. Unfortunately, due to her disease our goodbyes came many years ago. We are at peace as she is now with those she loved and lost. Mom, you gave so much and asked for so little in return. Thank you for always being there and loving your family unconditionally. We know you are now with your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
