Obituary

Pete Castillo, Jr., passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on May 14, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 82.

Born in Malakoff, Texas, to Pedro Castillo, Sr. and Consuelo Pérez Castillo, Pete (a.k.a. Peter or Pedro) grew up in Laredo, Texas, and Sterling, Illinois before enlisting and serving proudly in the United States Army. After completing his education in San Antonio, Texas, he began a devoted career working at Kelly Air Force Base as a systems analyst and as a Sergeant First Class with the U.S. Army Reserve.

He is survived by his wife, Elida Garza Castillo of San Antonio; daughters, Nora Belinda Castillo and Elizabeth Castillo Minjárez; grandchildren, Abraham Peter Minjarez, II, Elise Michelle Minjárez, and Antonio Peter Guerrero; siblings, Benigno (Marty) Castillo, Carmelina Genett, Desiderio (Marie) Castillo, Daniel (Monty) Castillo, Mauro (Eden) Castillo, Consuelo (David) Castillo Kickbusch, Ismael Castillo, and Mucia (Augustín) Dovalina; and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and a caregiver, Margarita Ruíz.

While many hearts are left heavy with Pete's absence, for those who departed before him, a long-awaited space by their side finally is filled with his free and joyful presence. Among his happy companions now are his parents, Pedro and Consuelo, his brother Marcos Castillo, Sr., and his beloved son, Pete Castillo, III, with whom he surely is casting a fishing line and sharing a taco or two. A certain Rottweiler rescue named Molly is sure to be by her devoted master's side, as well.

A rosary will be held Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Porter Loring McCullough Chapel.

On Monday, June 4, 2018 a Celebration of Life service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Porter Loring McCullough. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pete's honor to a charity dear to his heart (San Antonio Pets Alive, The ASPCA, The Wounded Warrior Project, or The Disabled American Veterans) or that a living plant be sent for transplanting into his much-loved garden where it will live on in his memory.
