Obituary for Rae Jean Nicholas Wiggins

August 11, 1955 - May 8, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 62

Rae Jean Nicholas Wiggins passed away on 8 May 2018 in San Antonio, TX. She was 62.

Rae was born 11 August 1955 to Gerald and Bernadine Nicholas. She held a Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech, a Master's Degree from Simmons College, and a Master's of Education from Harvard University. She met her husband, Glenn Wiggins in 1973. They married in 1979.

After being diagnosed with, and eventually surviving cancer, Rae devoted her life to following the core tenet of her religion: to support the weak, help the suffering, and return no one evil for evil. To love and serve the Lord.

In Boston she worked with a hospice care organization and provided in-home care for patients. She also led a group devoted to those struggling with, or recovering from, breast cancer. She was a deacon at Old South Church. In San Antonio she relished the opportunity to serve as a mentor to several elementary school students. She also served as a Council Member for Bethany United Church of Christ. Most recently she became involved with Vet Triip, an organization providing health services to veterans experiencing stress-related problems and chronic pain.

Rae was predeceased by her sister, Janet Beene and her brother Michael Nicholas. She is survived by her husband, Glenn and, always an animal lover, her dog Silvia. She delighted in every moment spent with her sister-in-law, Linda Hyman. She loved her nieces, nephews, and their families: Victor Nicholas, Dylan Klarfield, Whitney Nicholas, Jordan Beene, Alexandra Yndo, and Christine McLaughlin.

A celebration of Rae's life will take place on 12 May at 11:30 AM at Bethany United Church of Christ in San Antonio. A simultaneous memorial service, planned by her beloved friends in Boston is scheduled for 12:30 EDT at Old South Church where Rae was a long-time member.
