Obituary

Raymond Morantes passed in peace at 11:10pm on Friday, July 20th 2018, at 75 years young. He joined his daughter Magda Margot Morantes and grandson Ryan Morantes in the divine Kingdom of Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Lozano Morantes as well as his son Ramsey Morantes and daughters Monica Morantes, Josephine Joubert, Marlena Terrazas and Victoria Morantes. Raymond was born in Alice, TX, on January 14th, 1943 to Reyes Garza Morantes and Daniel Morantes, he is one of nine siblings.

He joined the United States Navy in 1963 and went on to serve two tours in Vietnam. Raymond was honorably discharged from the Navy and went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University in 1978. For over 30 years, Raymond worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an inspector and manager, ultimately, retiring as a GS15. He stood up for equality for all Mexican Americans and was responsible for several employees getting promotions and recognition that had been racially profiled and discriminate against. Several years later, Raymond himself experienced discrimination in the work place which led to him filing a lawsuit, against the FAA, and winning! Raymond always stood up for what he believed in and was never afraid to speak up for himself and for those without a voice.

He was loved and respected, beyond articulation, by everybody that had the pleasure of knowing him. Raymond was intelligent, generous, kind hearted and funny. He was a pillar of strength in his family and always took care of his loved ones. He will be missed immensely and never forgotten. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a true blessing to have had him in our lives. May he rest in peace while we all remember… It's not good bye… It's I'll see you later. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:30pm, on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
