Obituary

Raymundo Villarreal, Sr., loving husband, father, and grandfather slipped away from those he loved on November 2, 2019.

Raymundo Villarreal was born on January 3, 1934 to Susana and Vicente Villarreal, in New Braunfels, Texas. Raymundo was a life-long resident of San Antonio. Raymundo is survived by his wife of 64 years, Tanya E. Villarreal.

Raymundo was a Registered Professional Land Surveyor and served as Bexar County Surveyor (an elected position) for 18 years. He owned his own successful land surveying business for 49 years. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. He was listed in the Who's Who in Texas, Who's Who in the Southwest, and the Who's Who in Hispanic Office Holder.

Some of Raymundo's more significant surveying accomplishments were with the Assembly Building at La Villita, the Hilton Palacio Del Rio hotel (in preparation for the 1968 World's Fair being held in San Antonio). He also worked with the Swiss Engineers of the original skyride in Brackenridge Park to survey the skyride for the 1968 Hemisphere. Raymundo also located and surveyed the San Jose Acequia (Mission San Jose). Raymundo and Tanya also operated a small construction company called Ray-Tan Enterprises.

On a personal level, Raymundo loved classical music, reading, his family pets, and professional sports. He enjoyed attending all the extracurricular events for his children and grandchildren.

But, Raymundo's greatest pride was always in his and Tanya's four wonderful children and numerous grandchildren. Raymundo is survived by his wife of 64 years, Tanya E. Villarreal; daughters, Linda M. Gottman and husband David, Cindy V. Luster and husband Dennis, and Lydia V. Wuensch and husband Matthew; son, Raymundo Villarreal, Jr., CDR (Ret), USN and wife Lauren; grandchildren, Taylor R. Luster, Troy R. Luster and wife Stephanie, Kelsey W. Nassar and husband Zachary, Patrick A Wuensch and Raymundo Villarreal III.
