Obituary

Rebeca "Gueli" Garza, age 76, of San Antonio, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 with her loving children by her side. She was born in Mexico on March 24, 1942 to the late Pedro and Maria Gurrola Peredo.

Our mother was a very generous, compassionate, selfless and strong human being. She loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, family and friends. Our Mother had the gift of meeting people, instantly striking up a conversation, and somehow was able to have them share their life stories within their very first conversation—she truly had a compassionate and open heart.

Anyone who knew her can attest she always opened her heart, her home and her kitchen to anyone needing help, food, shelter or comfort. Our Gueli was a friend to all. She was always very giving of herself and her time, donating food and clothing to anyone in need. She was a soul with a big heart who always tried feeding us until we couldn't button our pants. You could always count on Gueli to prepare your favorite meals, making all of us a custom meal made to order. She made the best and most delicious tamales, sopita, refried beans and salsa you had ever tasted.

Our Gueli was always getting on our butts to do better and help others and each other. Her legacy will remain in her living children who learned how hard work, dedication and the power of a parent's support is the single most invaluable gift a parent can give. This spirit will remain alive through everyone who's lives she touched.

Our Gueli loved to dance, loved to listen and dance to Mariachi music and enjoyed watching sports. A few of her favorite sports were soccer and basketball. She loved cheering and screaming for her favorite team- Mexico! And loved watching Lebron James dunk the ball.

She was the selfless, loving strongest Matriarch of our family who was able to bond multi-families together. She overcame the toughest of tragedies of child loss by pouring her heart to her remaining children and grandchildren. She dedicated her entire life to her children and grandchildren. Spending time with her children is what brought her the most joy in life. We all know you won't hurt anymore Mami, you gave us everything you had— immense Love, strength, support, encouragement and generosity. We all know you won't hurt anymore for those you've lost, Mike, Blanca and Teresita and Papi, are up in heaven with you. You will smile forever in heaven. The party in heaven will only get better with your food, dancing and spirit. We love you Gueli. We will see each other soon. Save us some tamales and tacos.

Rebeca was preceded in death by parents; her beloved husband of fifteen years, Rodolfo G. Garza; three children, Teresita Garza, Blanca Estella De Los Santos and Miguel De Los Santos, Jr. She is survived by her children, Brigitte Garza (Valente Garcia), Priscilla Garza (Alfonso Ibarra) and Pedro De Los Santos. She also has nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
