Obituary

Col. Reginald J. Sapenter, age 91, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020. He was born on May 19, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents, Ernest Sapenter and Ruby Perry Sapenter. Reginald graduated from Prairie View A&M University excelling in track as a S.W.A.C. Champion, and participated in ROTC where he received his commissioning as Second Lieutenant. He was awarded numerous commendations throughout his Army career, most notably the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and Bronze Star Medal. Even though he was raised in Goliad, Texas, Reginald spent years in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and Turkey as well as multiple Army bases in the United States. After his service, he and his wife, Dorothy, retired in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Nell Sapenter. Reginald is survived by his children, Debra, June, Reginald, Jr., and Allen; grandchildren, Lauren, Jason, Robyn, Amber, and Faith; and great grandchild, Isaiah; and niece, Betty Francis. There will be a Wake from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020, at Porter Loring Mortuary.

Rev. Ruth Martin will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Sapenter Cemetery in Goliad, Texas.
