Obituary

RICHARD DARREN HOPPER
May 23, 1973 – February 17, 2018

Richard Darren Hopper, age 44, passed away on Saturday, February 17th, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas. Darren was born in San Antonio but spent most of his younger years in Carrizo Springs. He moved to Devine in 1988 and graduated with the Fighting Warhorse Class of 1991. He then attended Angelo State University. Darren had a successful career in the banking industry in San Antonio and more recently, in Houston. About a year and a half ago, he took a leap of faith and started real estate school. He excelled as a realtor for Niemeyer & Associates at Laughy Hilger Group Real Estate and built up a clientele/following in a very short amount of time.

Darren was an accomplished hunter and fisherman, and he took advantage of every opportunity he had to spend time in the beautiful South Texas brush country. He could cut a rug on any dance floor whether he was dancing to George Strait or Michael Jackson. He loved all kinds of music, including Tejano, and he could sing every word to Fuiste Mala by Kumbia Kings (even though he didn't know what any of it meant). Hitting the road with his biker buddies was another one of his favorite ways to spend his free time. Darren was an avid fan of the Patriots and Spurs, a gifted writer, poet, and award winning body builder. He had a personality that could light up a room and heart as tender and caring as there is. He will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Baxter Hopper. Darren is survived by mother, Doris Hopper; sister, Lisa Caloss and husband Ron; Nephew, Cameron Caloss; niece, Hannah Grace Caloss; Uncle, Mike Gumpp and wife Virginia; three aunts, Mary Ann Anderson and husband Mike; Gloria McCauley; Gayle Bradshaw and husband Robert; cousins, June Hoffman; Bobby Gumpp; Noel Balcar; Shayne Anderson; Mark McCauley; Melanie McCauley; Robert (Danny) Bradshaw; Matthew Bradshaw; and numerous "Framily" and friends.
