The Lord called upon Richard E. Flores Sr. beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on November 22, 2016 at 1:30 P.M. at the age of 87 years old. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 30, 1929 to Gregorio and Anita Flores. He was one of 13 children, 9 sons, and 4 daughters.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita (Janie); his loving parents Gregorio and Anita Flores; five brothers, Gilbert, Freddie, David, Charles (Charlie), Robert (Robbie), six sisters-in-law's, Donna, Annie, Josephine, Esperanza, Cora, and Olivia (Billie).
He graduated from Fox Technical High School and then joined the U.S. Army in 1948. He served proudly during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Kelly AFB after 30 years. Richie and Janie had a passion for dancing and were called Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. He had a passion for playing Pool and was a member of the VFW Post 8111, VFW Post 4815, and America Legion Post 399 Eight Ball Association for many years. He served as an Executive Board member for the VFW Post 8111.
Richie enjoyed traveling, gambling at Casinos from Utah, to Louisiana, to Oklahoma, watching golf, playing poker on Sundays with family and friends; but his passion was watching the Dallas Cowboys and Spurs with friends and family.
He leaves behind his children: Richard E. Flores Jr. (Jeanette), Cynthia F. Villarreal (Jimmy), Anthony Flores (Cruz Xitlali (Lali)), Roland Flores (Elizabeth), Rebecca Flores, and Ruben Flores. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Richie is survived by his three brothers- Alejandro (Alex), Salvador (Bucky) (Carmen), Victor and four sisters Sista (Cida)(Sam) Saucedo, Anita (Chata)(Robert)Rodriguez, Olga Galan, Lucia (Cushie) Ricondo, and two sisters-in-law's, Socorro Flores, Luz Avila and one brother-in-law Julian Avila (Yolanda). He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A special thanks to Ms. Destiny Marie Garcia, Mr. Joe John Rodriguez, Mr. Juan Hernandez, Ms. Mary Acosta, all the staff (2nd floor and SCIU) at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, the staff at Brookdale Alamo Heights skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, and the staff at Merida Health Care Group in helping us care for our father. Richie will be dearly missed and was loved by all who met him. He will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. Rosary at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave. A procession will depart Porter Loring Chapel at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of the Resurrection on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., 111 Barilla Place, San Antonio, Texas 78209. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
