Obituary

Beloved Husband and Father, Robert "Bob" Aaron Payne, RN/PA, age 81 of Wausau, Wisconsin, later migrating to San Antonio, Texas, departed on his final voyage on Friday, August 14, 2020, from heart complications.

He was born February 10, 1939, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Aaron R. Payne and Mary Busher of Wausau, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Villarreal Payne; sons, Stephen A. Payne and Raul A Villarreal; extended family, Richard Huerta and Rosabel Huerta, Houston, TX, Rosie Hernandez and Edward Hernandez, San Antonio, TX, Roger Huerta, Austin, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the state.

Robert A. Payne graduated from D.C. Everest High School, Wausau, Wisconsin, 1957. Enlisting in the Navy he became a Hospital Corpsman in 1957, graduating from the U.S. Naval Hospital Corps School, San Diego, California, as an Independent duty Hospital Corpsman, in 1957. Later attending, Marshfield Clinic Physicians Assistant Training Program, Marshfield, Wisconsin, becoming a Physicians Assistant, 1961-62. He continued his medical education and became a Registered Nurse after attending, St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, Marshfield, Wisconsin, 1964-67. Proudly culminating his formal education with a Bachelors Degree, Bachelor of Science Nursing, from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin; "Numen Lumen". On, Wisconsin! He later did graduate and grant work at, University of Wisconsin & National Graduate University, Washington, D.C. and Public Health Hospital Administration, Madison, Wisconsin, 1972-75; respectively.

He served his country faithfully and honorably, in both the Navy and later Army Reserve:
U.S. Navy 1957-61 - achieving the rank of Hospital Corpsman Third Class.
U.S. Army Reserve 1970-79 - achieving the rank of Captain Army Nurse Corps.

His professional career and accomplishments were extensive, and these are but a few highlights and points of pride he fondly remembered - St. Joseph's Hospital, operating room technician, 1961-1967; University of Wisconsin Hospitals, nursing inservice educator, 1969-1971; Honolulu Medical Group, executive director ceo, 1979-1983; Consolidated Consulting Corporation, owner with physician partner, 1989-1994; Alamo City Medical Group, consultant, 1994-1995; University Physicians Group, executive vice president, 1995-2004; Centene Corp / Superior Health Plan, consultant, 2004-2009.

Robert was a devoted husband and father, he married Marie C. Payne, on July 3, 1996, and they were together for 30 happy years. The two traveled extensively, throughout Europe and occasionally to Hawaii in their early years. Spending time with his wife and family was a favorite pastime of his, along with watching NASCAR, wood working, and working in the medical field helping veterans in later life. He lived a humble life as a simple good man.

He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary on Monday, August 31, 2020.

will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
