Obituary

Robert Kenneth Overend born July 6, 1944 to parents Simon Peter Overend and Louise Dorothy (Rust) Overend in Hendricks, Minnesota. He passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018. He was the youngest of 8 children and is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

He attended a one-room schoolhouse in rural South Dakota and graduated from Elkton High School in 1962. In 1967 he graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. He received his Master of Science Degree in Pharmacy at University of Pacific in Stockton, CA in 1972.

He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Mary Cochran, in Elkton, SD in 1965 and was commissioned as a Captain in the US Army in 1968 with his first assignment being in San Francisco, CA. He had subsequent assignments in Denver, CO; Hinesville, GA; Leavenworth, KS; Panama City, Panama; and San Antonio, TX before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990.

After his military retirement, he worked for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) for 10 years, and then as a consultant pharmacist for RKO Consulting for 9 years.

He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing and playing Pinochle with the family.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, daughter Lisa Wagoner and husband, Dan; son Timothy Overend and wife, Christine; and granddaughters, Natalie and Nicole Overend.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, committed father, adored grandfather, and respected pharmacist who was quick with a joke, skillful with a piece of wood, and generous with his time and toys.

A memorial visitation will take place at Porter Loring Mortuary North on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Interment with Military Honors will follow in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
