Obituary for Mr. Robert Mark Jackson

February 6, 1963 - June 17, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 55

On Sunday, June 17, 2018, at 3:45 PM in a hospice in San Antonio, we lost Mark Jackson. He was 55 years old, born in Corpus Christi on February 6, 1963 and he served in the military in Germany. Through ability and determination, Mark built a construction company in San Antonio. He successfully bid many significant government and commercial contracts. The San Antonio company currently employs some 125 people and recently expanded into Abilene, El Paso and New York. One key to Mark's success was surely his attention to detail and especially his follow-up. On a yellow legal pad, he kept what was known as "Mark's List." He started each and every day phoning everyone on The List to ensure that work that needed to be done was done, done right, and done on time. It was said that "You do not want to be on Mark Jackson's List. He will not stop calling." He had an exceptional command of language, sometimes quite colorful, and was known for quick wit and droll humor.

At the time of Mark's death, many people had gathered in the hospice and outside. Several were heard to say that Mark had believed in them and given them a chance in life at a time that they needed a hand up. Mark commanded great respect and inspired loyalty.

Mark had adenocarcinoma in a lung, which commonly causes strokes. This cancer was diagnosed as terminal when discovered. After only two weeks in a hospital, he was moved to palliative care.

Mark is survived by his wife, Sonia; his 21-year-old daughter, Dallas; his son, Cole, age 15; his mother, Lynn Kendrick; his father, Mike Jackson; two brothers Todd Jackson and Tom Haley; and his life-long, faithful childhood friend, Greg Alexander. Of all of his accomplishments, Mark was most proud of one thing: he was dedicated to and provided for his family, gave them a good stable home and his children a good education. It is fitting that Mark was called home on Father's Day.

Mark, we were privileged to have had you in our lives. You will be mourned and you will be greatly missed. Friends and family will find solace in their faith.
