Obituary

Robert Stanley Fears was born in Uvalde, Texas April 29, 1945. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Franklin Fears and mother, Piedad Chapoy Fears; sister, Mildred Wondra; brothers, Harold Jr., and John Sterling Fears (Mary Helen Browning Fears). He attended his early elementary grades at P.F. Stewart Elementary and St. Margaret Mary Catholic School where he served mass as an altar boy.

He attended Jr. High at Highlands Jr/Senior High School. He graduated with an academic diploma concurrently earning Certification in Welding Technology and supporting technical studies from Fox Tech High School, SAISD. While in high school, he was a member of the Vocational Industrial Club and the American Welding Society. He began his career at Siedel Iron Works in San Antonio, followed by a tour of duty during the Viet Nam War with the United States Navy.

He was assigned to the USS Waddell, a Naval Destroyer as a Machinist Mate, attaining the enlisted rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. After his honorable discharge from military service, he returned back to his technical career with San Antonio Roller Works, Universal Bookbindery, Inc. eventually retiring from the maintenance division of the San Antonio Express News while attending professional and continuing education studies at San Antonio College night school. He was an accomplished guitar player and enjoyed Oriental culinary arts.

He is survived by his daughter, Veronica; son, Robert; grandchildren: Mandolin and Jae; sisters: Valerie Ashton (Sgt Frank Ashton), Janice Schwartz and brother LTC (Ret.) Edward R. Fears (Isabel Jimenez Fears) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will take place Tuesday, September 4th at 10:30 a.m. at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, 138 Beethoven, San Antonio, Texas 78210. Burial at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
