Obituary

Robin David Cruz, age 48, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. Robin was born May 19, 1971 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to Lucinda Lady Cruz, RN and Dr. Pedro Rafael Cruz-Jimenez, (Col. USAF Ret.). After spending his childhood in Puerto Rico, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, and Florida, he moved with his family to the state he would finally call home—Texas.

Robin was a graduate of Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio. A veteran of the Friday Night Lights, Robin played varsity football for the Chargers. Robin was popular with his peers and coaches alike and served as a trusted mentor in PAL (Peer Assistance & Leadership). Robin went on to attend Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, where he studied Exercise and Sport Science/Sports Medicine, and Political Science as well as played as a walk-on on the University's Division I football team and captained the storied Southwest Texas State Renegade Rugby Football Club. Robin's rugby talents and tenacity earned him a tryout with the US National Union Rugby Team (The Eagles), where he showed a tremendous amount of promise. Persistent injuries eventually sidelined his athletic career.

With a green thumb and entrepreneurial spirit, Robin explored a variety of exciting careers related to sales and publishing. After experiencing varying degrees of success, Robin took advantage of some much-deserved time off. With a new sense of purpose, Robin founded his own commercial landscaping company. Shortly thereafter, Robin starred in what would be his final role—managing the installation of modern airport security scanners for the Department of Homeland Security.

After many adventures, Robin decided to settle down, and he eventually moved back to San Antonio before reconnecting with an acquaintance from his college days in San Marcos—his future fiancée, Renee. Robin then made her hometown of Missouri City his home as well. Robin was always a doting son, a loyal brother, and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. Robin will be remembered as a wonderful friend to so many—with his big heart, open arms, and endless supply of generosity and good vibes.
