Ronald "Papa Keith" Obadal
September 25, 1933- September 4, 2018

Our beloved Ronald Keith Obadal, better known as "Papa Keith," went to be with the Lord at the age of 84. He was born in Ballinger, Texas to parents John and Illa Obadal. Ronald was a devout Catholic who dedicated his life to Christ at an early age. He graduated from San Antonio Central Catholic high school in 1951. He used to brag about being an enthusiastic cheerleader. His favorite story about his enthusiasm was when he was tossed out of the gym during a basketball game. Ronald says that he stood on a table trying to get the crowd excited and ended up falling on top of the visiting team's bench thus being removed. He also bragged about winning a history essay contest while attending high school. Soon after high school he joined the military. Ronald served four years in the U.S. Army as a medic. Later, he earned two Master's degrees, both from St. Mary's University in the studies of Business. He utilized his college education in the field of banking and investments as he owned several businesses of his own throughout his life.

Ronald was a huge supporter of the PBS network, NPR radio, San Antonio Botanical Garden and the San Antonio Symphony. He was lucky enough to speak about his uncle Adolph "Booby" Obadal on a PBS special about San Antonio history. In his spare time, he enjoyed a good glass of wine, a good meal, a good political debate, time with family & friends and working in his organic garden. He also loved everything about politics, and would fight for his beliefs even if it meant he had to stand alone. He was a firm believer in equality and lived by this philosophy on a daily basis. Ronald was someone who had a great sense of humor (he always had a great story), intelligent and witty and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A special thank you to Signal Hospice Care (Rosie-CNA, Paul-Nurse, Chaplain Clark and Richard & Koi-volunteers), Doña Elvira (caregiver), and Nina Carrizales (dear friend/continued support); the care, love and support that was provided throughout the years far exceeds the call of duty. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving daughter, Karina Ayala (Adrian); granddaughter, Mia, and many close relatives and friends.
