Obituary for Col. Ronald W. Brenz, D.O. (Ret.)

November 28, 1941 - November 21, 2016
San Antonio, Texas | Age 74

Col. Ronald W. Brenz, D.O. (Ret.) passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016, in San Antonio. A devoted husband, he had a deep and uncompromising love of his family and friends.

Ronald earned his medical degree (Doctor of Osteopathy/DO) from the Chicago College of Osteopathy in 1967 and completed a rotating internship at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital before entering active service in the US Army Medical Corps. He was trained as a flight surgeon and completed a one year tour of duty in Vietnam. Dr. Brenz spent a total of 24 years in active service, where he completed residencies in pediatrics and psychiatry and fellowships in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as forensic psychiatry. Throughout his career, he maintained board certification in psychiatry.

After retiring from active service as a colonel in 1992, Dr. Brenz began private practice in psychiatry. He retired from private practice in 2014, but remained active in psychiatric research and served in various medically related organizations, including the governing board of the Texas Physician Health Program.

Dr. Brenz's life-long zeal for muscle cars, aircraft, Big Band music, and all things military never waned. Sentimental and tenderhearted, he was known for breaking into song for every type of occasion and loved making others laugh. He will live on in our hearts, always.

Dr. Brenz was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Brenz. His survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, K. Gail Brenz; son, Michael R. Brenz and wife, Stacy Flynn Brenz; daughter, Kerri L. Stark and husband, Michael; step-son, Kevin Warren and wife, Janet; grandchildren, Ryan Brenz and Charlie Stark; brother, Richard Brenz and wife, Lelani; his beloved dog, B.J.
