Obituary

Rose Mary Carreno Valdez, an angel of God, graced us with her love, wisdom, and devotion from her birth on August 27, 1948 until her premature and unexpected death on November 14, 2017. A loving wife, an exemplary mother, and truest of friend to many, she was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Estella Carreno. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Ernest G. Valdez; daughter, Vanessa Estella Valdez; and son, Ernest Gilbert Valdez, III.; her big brother, Rene Carreno, Sr.; her niece, Christa Carreno Aldrich and husband, Tony; nephew, Rene Carreno, Jr. and wife, Lorraine; and nephew, Charles Carreno and wife, JoAnn; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews and beloved cousins.
Rose Mary never met a stranger, never spoke with ill will or rancor, and always expressed and carried herself with dignity, poise, grace, and charm. Her love for others and her compassion knew no bounds. She was a devoted Catholic and spent many years serving the Church and her community. She was the first to pray for others and lend a hand to anyone in need. Her devout Catholicism earned her an induction as a Lady in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
Rose Mary was one of the first female juvenile probation officers in Bexar County and the legal liaison for the San Antonio region of the Child Welfare Department. Once she had her first child, Vanessa, she found her true calling as a full-time mother, caregiver, chauffer and personal assistant first to Vanessa and then to her baby boy, Ernest Gilbert. She later returned to work as the officer manager at her husband Ernest's law office on Broadway, where she worked until her retirement.
Hers was a full life spent providing love, advice and counsel to her children, friends, and extended family. She blessed the world with her presence and will leave a hole in the hearts of many who were lucky enough to be touched by her kind heart and gentle soul.
