Obituary for Ruben Ruiz, Jr.

September 24, 1962 - August 18, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 55

Ruben Ruiz, Jr., age 55, passed away on Saturday August 18, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas where he was born and raised. He was married in 1983 to his loving wife Patty for 35 years and every day was still a honeymoon for them. They were the epitome of love birds holding hands and stealing kisses whenever possible. Ruben serenaded Patty on his guitar with endless love songs he wrote and sang to her often. The Lord brought them together and they loved and served Him all of their days together. They also loved traveling the world and sharing their adventures with family and friends.

Ruben loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul and mind. He was the spiritual leader for the family and an Ordained Minister serving many organizations including the New Centurion ministry at Ft. Sam Houston with Full Gospel Business Fellowship, preaching at the San Antonio Rescue Mission, Prison Ministry and many Bible study groups. He also started an outreach ministry called Saturday in the Park. He was a member of Cornerstone Church for over 25 years where he served as a leader.

He worked for UPS for 25 years and was well loved by his UPSer family. Everyone knew of his festive spirit and Candy Ministry; he used every opportunity to spread the love of Jesus with cheer. He was to retire in May 2019.

He was a family man who loved spending time barbequing with his daughters, son-in-laws, and grandsons. He was an avid fisherman, camper, golfer, and especially loved relaxing at the beach. Ruben was a big sports fan who enjoyed watching and attending Spurs, Cowboys and Longhorn games. Music was a large part of his life. He felt the presence of God through praise and worship music. Ruben wrote many songs and sang them for his family. He was a member of a Southern Gospel band called Potter's Clay. He made sure to pass on a love for these passions with all of us.

He was preceded in death by his father Ruben Ruiz Sr., brother Stephen Lee Ruiz, and his grandson Jaiden Ellis Wong. Ruben is survived by his Wife: Patty Ruiz. Daughters: Aurora Angelique Ruiz, Erica Tiffany Ruiz and husband Nate Smith, Crystal Joy Ruiz, Amber Grace Muse and husband Joseph Muse. Mother: Fanny Rodriguez Ruiz. Grandchildren: Joshua Seth Ruiz, Ethan Wayne Smith, and William Skinner. Mother-in-law: Aurora Rivas. Sister-in-law: Veronica Jones and husband Kelly Jones. Sister-in-law: Gina Eleuterius and husband Forrest Eleuterius. Nephews: Forrest Eleuterius, Scott Eleuterius. Niece: Megan Eleuterius.

Ruben was considered by many to be a Difference Maker. He made everyone feel unique, special and part of his family. He was a servant leader who led by example in everything he did. His legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He always used to say, "My home is in heaven! I am just traveling through this world." –Billy Graham
