Obituary

A loving son, loyal brother, caring husband, nurturing father, and protector of all he encountered, Rudy B. Longoria, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 18 after his battle with cancer in Helotes, Texas.

Rudy was born on September 16, 1946 to John J. and Juanita Longoria. During his childhood, Rudy would travel across America every summer with his parents and brothers as migrant farm workers. During these times, he learned the value of a strong family, faith in God, humility, and being kind to everyone he met. In his days at South San High School, Rudy was voted Senior Class Favorite, Campus Favorite, and PTA Coronation King.

Always grateful for the opportunities provided to him, Rudy answered the call when he was drafted into the United States Army and deployed to Vietnam, where he served his country proudly from 1966-1967. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Mary Alice, and fulfilled his childhood dream to become a police officer and protect his community. He was employed by the San Antonio Police Department for 32 years working in many different departments, eventually retiring as a Detective in the Robbery Unit. In his retirement, he enjoyed saltwater fishing, and traveling across the United States, Europe, and Mexico with his wife. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs and the Texas Longhorns and always hoped "this would be their year".

He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. & Juanita Longoria. Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Longoria; children, Lori Ann Garza and husband, Noel Garza, Jason Francisco Longoria and wife, Annelisa Longoria; grandchildren, Jacob Contreras, Ashley Garza, Adrianna Garza, Anyssa Garza, Rosalinda Garza, Raquel Garza, Adeline Christine Longoria; 2 great-grandsons; 3 brothers, John F. Longoria and wife, Mercy, Gilbert Longoria, and Roy V. Longoria and wife, Shirley; and numerous other relatives and friends, as well as his faithful dog - Rosko.
