Obituary

RUDY MUNOZ DE LA CRUZ
October 24, 1929 – January 25, 2018

Angels came from heaven and took our beloved Rudy by the hand and led him to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the age of 88. He entered into eternal rest peacefully at his home with his family. Rudy was united in heaven with his beloved wife Carrie only three weeks after her passing.

Rudy Munoz De La Cruz was a lifelong resident of San Antonio, born on October 24, 1929 to Vicente and Ester De La Cruz. Rudy honorably served in the Army for four years. Upon completing his service to his country, he continued by serving as a civil servant working at Kelly AFB for over 30 years where he eventually retired.

Most importantly, Rudy was a wonderful family man, teacher and provider who was always there for his family making sure they were never without a thing. He was so very proud of his children and loved to share all their accomplishments with his family and friends. His love for his children was never ending and he would do anything for them. He adored his family with all his heart as they were the center of his world and he was the center of theirs.

Rudy was the most caring, devoted, and loving father and grandfather and enjoyed every second he spent with them. He loved life, loved to have a good time, and had a heart of gold. These beautiful qualities he made sure to pass on to his children. He was the patriarch of the family and will be missed dearly by his children and all whose lives he touched as he knew no stranger.

All who knew Rudy knew he was a proud, handsome man and a sharp dresser. He loved to shop at Penners downtown and loved his collection of Stacey Adams, guayaberas, cowboy boots and hats.

He was also passionate about music and thoroughly enjoyed singing and playing the guitar at home. He enjoyed listening to musica ranchera, corridors and tejano. He had a great sense of humor and could make new friends anywhere. Rudy's BBQ was his favorite hang out and had many dear friends there.

As a young man, Rudy was an exceptional athlete. He played semi professional baseball for several professional baseball teams and even made the headlines in local newspapers. He was a gifted woodworker who made beautiful swings and outdoor furniture, a skill few people possess. He also made beautiful crosses that he gifted to family and friends that lasted a lifetime.

His priorities were God, his family, and his dear friends. He loved life, and material things meant nothing to him. He had enormous charm and a great sense of humor. He understood life was better when you're laughing.

Above all, he is leaving behind a family who will truly feel the immense loss of a such a giving, loving, devoted father. He will be missed by all who loved him, to know him was to love him. His wonderful memories are etched in our hearts forever.

Rudy is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carrie, his step daughter, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, parents, grandparents.
He is survived by his children, son Rudy De La Cruz, Jr. and wife Elsa; two daughters, Carla Garces and husband Michael, and Anna Ortega and husband Gerardo; grandchildren, Alessandra De La Cruz, Rudy De La Cruz, Michelangelo Garces, Nickolai Garces, Marko Ortega, Emiliano Ortega; Great Grandchildren twin girls Alina and Alexa Martinez.
