Obituary for Samuel James Bowersox

May 10, 1987 - October 25, 2019
San Antonio, Texas | Age 32

Sam entered the world on May 10th, 1981 at Fort Knox Kentucky. He was adopted at a tender age and became part of the Bowersox military family. They moved to New Jersey where he learned to walk, talk, loved to be outdoors. They went to Panama and Sam fell in love with swimming and the ocean. He grew in height and wisdom and started to become a handsome young man. His dreams were only beginning to come to fruition as they were sent to Hawaii. Here Sam would have loved to live his entire life. He spent all the time he could in the water, and when leaving, told others he was Hawaiian. Swimming was his passion. In Maryland, Sam taught swimming, was an aquatic director and found a second love; dogs. He got to meet his cousins and his family grew. He worked at a vet clinic until allergies to cats had him move to a different path—school. Upon graduation from High School, he left with a diploma and EMT/Firefighter Certification. With all things in his life, when Sam committed himself, he was passionate. He received numerous awards for the number of EMT calls to which he responded, and even saved a famous football player. The final home for Sam was Texas. After a short stay near the beach in Corpus, he returned to San Antonio. Here, God had a new path for Sam. He worked at the Oblate Seminary with the religious students, until health issues made him move. He then worked at Oblate retirement home where he considered the priesthood. Also, while working at the Oblate retirement home he discovered ACTS. He not only attended ACTS but became an active member in the ACTS HIV AIDS ministry. God was not finished yet with Sam. He began teaching a bible study at a Recovery Center and was a member of the ACTS team for these confined young men. With two cruises to the Caribbean, and trips to Las Vegas with his dear and very special neighbor, Sam had had a full life. Though Sam always had a smile, was ready to stand up for his convictions, was a joy to be around, and always ready to lend a helping hand at the drop of the hat, he had behind the big laugh, invisible health issues. He was happy living with just his dogs in a one-bedroom condo, but life can be hard and cruel. Sam the beloved and good son of Tom and Marlene, devoted brother of Jennifer, nephew of Dan and Belinda and Mike and Norinda, became very sad, tired and worn. On October 25, 2019 at the young age of 38, Sam would find relief of all his inward pain, in the arms of our Heavenly Father. He will be missed by the many friends he made on this too short journey of life. Today, he awaits the day, when we all can see that big smile of his, hear his laugh, and sit by the water's edge with him and his many dogs, somewhere over the Rainbow, in Paradise.
