Obituary

Sue Jacqueline Whitted Hutchison was born July 21, 1939 in Austin, Texas and went home to the Lord and her Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the age of 78. Suzi was preceded in death by her parents, John Edward Whitted and Nina Pauline Rodgers Whitted. Although born in Austin, Texas, her family moved to San Antonio in 1943 where she resided until her death. She was a graduate of Brackenridge High School and studied art with Warren Hunter and at UTSA. Her work has been displayed in several art galleries around the area.

She received degrees from San Antonio College and Our Lady of the Lake University along with various insurance and business certifications. She spent many years working in the Casualty Insurance Industry and retired from State Farm insurance in 1982 and from USAA in 1997. Suzi loved painting, gardening and traveling. She and her husband Fred traveled most of the world during their marriage. Her favorite vacation escape was Mazatlán, Mexico where they owned a time share apartment. Every November, for 22 years, off they went to rest and relax on the beautiful Mexican coast.

Suzi gave freely of her time over the years, volunteering as a Docent with the San Antonio Museum Association and past treasurer and board member of the Copini Academy of Fine Arts. She served eleven years as a teacher, mentor and Executive Board of Directors member with the Christian Women's Job Corps; as well as teaching English as a second language. She lovingly gave her time and talents to Oak Ridge Baptist Church in many capacities. She also volunteered her time as president and vice president of the New Territories Home Owners Association Board of Directors as well as Neighborhood Watch Chairman. She served many years on the Hidden Creek Board of Directors. She wrote letter campaigns for donations to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association and the Easter Seal Foundation for several years.

She leaves behind her loving and supportive husband of 38 years, Fredrick; daughter, Kerri Hutchison Childers and her wonderful grandsons, Cameron Childers and Brandon Childers, whom she absolutely adored. Suzi is also survived by her sisters and brothers in law, Laura Whitted Lee and C. Wayne Lee and Jane Whitted Caldwell and Chuck Caldwell. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws and wonderful friends. We will all miss her.

Visitation will be from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Bill Shockley and Rev. Andrew Bedo at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 10915 Vance Jackson Road on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at The Garden of Christ in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of her memory to Oak Ridge Baptist Church, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the Christian Women's Job Corps.
