Obituary

Terry Burle Gumm, 87, of San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 30, 2019 at his home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

Terry was born on November 9, 1932 in Houston, Texas to parents, Terry and Beatrice Gumm, where he grew up and graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1951. After graduating, Terry joined the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to complete the aviation cadet program at Lowry AFB. Upon completion of the cadet program, Terry married his high school sweetheart, Inez Eason, in the chapel on base. Terry was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal during his tours of duty overseas and in the states. He was a member of the Air Force Band. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force four years later, Terry and Inez moved to San Antonio where they have lived for the past 56 years. Terry had a Masters in Accounting and worked for Frank Brothers, Swearingen Aircraft, Excalibur Aviation, Pablo Garcia, E.H "Cotton" Jaroszewski, and Sunburst Inc. Terry also acted as a tax consultant to many other large firms including his sister's business Overhead and Crawford Door Companies. For 10 years, Terry was a Boy Scout Leader for those wishing to become Eagle Scouts. Terry was a sweet, honest, humble, fun loving man who could light up the room with his smile and charisma. Everyone who knew Terry will miss him dearly. It was truly an honor to have known such a wonderful man, father, grandfather and veteran. His memory will live in our hearts forever. Terry was a devout Christian believer and member of the First Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Dauphin Gumm; father, Terry Gumm; brother, Kenneth Gumm, sister, Merle Crosland and his loving wife, Inez of 63 years together. Terry is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Louise Gleason; sisters-in-law, Mary Gumm and Lula Dominy; and his four children who are left to cherish his memory forever, daughters, Sherron Baker of Longview, Texas, Carole Gumm of San Antonio, Texas and Kimberly and husband Shaun Bruner of Blairsville, Georgia; son, Larry Gumm of Ellijay, Georgia. Terry had seven grandchildren: Jason Slone, Cory Slone, Alisha Petkus, Melanie Gumm, Jay Kliner, Ethan Bruner and Kaylee Bruner. In addition, Terry had six great-grandchildren: Savanna, Kevin, Logan, Weston, Avery and Abby as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 and again from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Pastor Malcolm Crosland presiding. Terry's life celebration will continue with a reception at the Hampton Inn- Northwoods, 2127 Gold Canyon Drive (Gold Canyon and Loop 1604 East).
