Obituary

Thomas H, Swiercinsky was born on June 10, 1938 in Belleville, Republic County, Kansas. He is the son of Roman F. and Blanche M (Pachta) Swiercinsky. He was the youngest of six siblings, the oldest died at age 4. He was preceded in death by a beloved grandson, Briton Swiercinsky, and three brothers, Leonard, Gerald and Roman Jr. He has one surviving sister, Lorene Berggren of Grand Island, Nebraska.

Thomas initiated his formal education in a rural one-room schoolhouse in Republic County before the family moved to the city of Belleville where he completed his education at Belleville High School, graduating in 1956.

He entered the U.S. Army in July 1956 and was a crew chief on H-19 Sikorsky helicopters before being discharged in July of 1959. He spent most of his service career at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. After discharge, he attended Parks College of St. Louis University where he graduated with a B.S. in Aeronautics in 1962
He married Carol Ann Koerner on August 17, 1963 in San Antonio, Texas and to this union two children were born, Michael Paul Swiercinsky of Rockwall, Texas and Ellen Marie (LoBue) Swiercinsky of Highland Village, Texas. He was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren.

Tom spent much of his career working in research and development where he helped improve the reliability of liquid springs and the integrity of automatic riveting machines for the aircraft industry. He worked for many years in the highway safety field where he contributed to identifying the causes of automobile, truck, motorcycle and pedestrian accidents and the injuries as a result of these collisions. During his career, he gave several presentation to NATO and SAE committees. He also served on several SAE safety committees.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Leon Springs and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 14690.
During his working career and into retirement, Tom devoted many hours volunteering for meals-on-wheels, St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Elder Friends and assisting veterans at the local VA hospital.

Rosary will be recited Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 7:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Mass will be Friday, April 27, 2018 at 12 :00 Noon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
