Obituary

Vernon H. "Jack" Wold, age 94, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at his home at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas. The son of Halstein and Inanda (Otterness) Wold, Jack was born on January 29, 1926 in Fargo, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Mary I Wold, his wife Karen Carew Wold and his only son, Michael A. Wold. He is survived by a host of friends, including special friends Randy and Maida Perkins, Marty and Barbara McKinley, Kent and Jill Hulsey and many exceptional care givers.
Colonel Wold was both an Army man and a public servant. At the age of 17 he served as a tank gunner for General Patton's army as they victoriously invaded Germany. After obtaining a pharmacist degree on the GI Bill from the University of Minnesota, he was once again called to serve in Korea as a combat medic. During Vietnam, he served his country supervising medical supply distributions. Jack was an active member in the Rotary Club of Heber Springs and the Kiwanis Club at the Army Residence Community. He had a special interest making sure deserving young people received scholarships to further their education. Golf was his major joy outside of military service and he played courses all around the world. He was also involved with The First Tee program helping to instill the love of golf in young people. Jack was the leader in the fundraising drive to build the Mary I. Wold County Library in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
