Obituary

William Joseph Pointer, lovingly known as "Bill Joe", passed away peacefully in his home on January 18, 2018 after a lengthy illness, where he was surrounded by his loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Stout Pointer and Emma Louise Pointer.

Bill was born December 17, 1953 in England. His dad was in the military and eventually retired in San Antonio where Bill attended school including John Jay High School and graduated in 1972. He went on to attend Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos where he played college football and received his degree. He began his career as a teacher and coach at Lytle High School. Bill soon met and married the love of his life, Terri Crow Pointer, and they have been married for 37 years. After several years in education, he entered the insurance industry with Liberty Mutual. Over the course of his career, Bill worked for Blanch, Elton George & Company, American Indemnity, and Bituminous Insurance Group. Bill finished his forty year career in insurance as a Commercial Underwriter for The Hartford.

Bill loved and cherished his family. He enjoyed traveling with his family on cruises, loved spending time in the mountains, and spent lots of time in the California wine country as well as weekend trips to the Texas Hill Country wineries. One of his most favorite pastimes was spending a day bay-fishing in Port Aransas. He and Terri have one daughter, Sarah (Pointer) Ziese. He was involved in every aspect of her life from coaching to mentoring her along the way. Most recently he coached a club volleyball team with her at Katy Volleyball Academy. Just 19 months ago, Sarah and her husband, Brian Ziese, gave birth to a precious baby girl, Presley Lynn, who has been the absolute joy of Bill's life. Bill cherished every moment he was able to spend time with Presley, and she loved her "Poppy" to the moon and back.

Bill is survived by his wife of 37 years, Terri Crow Pointer, daughter Sarah and husband Brian Ziese, and granddaughter, Presley Lynn. He is also survived by his brother, Fred Pointer, and sister and brother-in-law, Mary and David Ayars, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws, and many, many friends.
