Dr. Forrest M. Smith, Jr., known to most as Â"FrostyÂ", flew to heaven early Thursday morning after a full and fruitful life. Born in El Paso on May 14, 1927, Frosty was born to Forrest and Harriet Smith and was big brother, Â"BuddyÂ" to Paul Bim and David Davo.
He attended the University of Texas where he began lifelong friendships as a Phi Gam. After a stint in the Navy during World War II, he attended Pennsylvania Medical School where he met and married Betty Gant. They enjoyed 52 wonderful years together and raised four children, Forrest III, Madison, Alexine and Harriet.
He gained four more children as each married; Cathy Ann, Cathy O., Peter and Mike. We are so grateful to have had Dad as our dad. To his 11 grandchildren, he was Â"PoppyÂ". Whitney, Hallie, Drew, Forrest IV, Peter, Jr., Sydney, Sam, Julia, Claire, Emma and Michael; he filled them with kindness and encouragement.
Frosty practiced his own, very special brand of pediatrics for 48 years. Those of you who went to Â"Dr. FrostyÂ" know what we mean. In a sense, his care will continue through Dr. SmithÂ's Diaper Ointment, a venture he helped found with faithful, long time colleagues.
Above all, Frosty loved God. With each passing year, he seemed to grow younger in his spirit and closer to the Lord. He regarded each person with acceptance, warmth and encouragement. No one was a stranger to Frosty for long. His favorite greeting was an Â"abrasoÂ" otherwise know as a hug.
Frosty Smith was a lover in the best sense of the word. We will miss him but, will also celebrate a life fully lived. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Frosty Smith Memorial Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 404 North Alamo, San Antonio, Texas, 78205 or the charity of your choice.
